Pastry:
2-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
1 egg (separated)
2/3 cup milk

Filling:
6-8 apples
3/4 - 1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
3 tbsp. flour
1 cup crushed corn flakes

Topping:
1 cup confectionery sugar
3-4 tsp milk
2 drops almond extract
|
- combine flour, salt & cut in shortening
- beat egg yolk & add milk to make 2/3 cup
- add this liquid to flour mixture to make dough - then divide in
half.
- roll 1/2 dough (with flour) to fit 15x10 jelly roll pan - lay
dough in bottom of pan
- sprinkle crushed corn flakes on crust
- lay apple mixture on flakes & dot with butter/margarine all over
apples
- add top crust layer, seal edges and cut slits in top
- beat egg white & brush on top crust
- bake in 375 degree oven for 45 minutes
- cool on wire rack
- drizzle on topping in lattice or cris-cross lines
- cut into squares and serve
